a wire sliding on two parallel conducting rails placed at a separation l .a magnetic feild B exists in direction perpendicular to the plane of rails what is the force necessary to keep the wire moving at constant vel?

it's the magnetic force

in addition relative motion produces an electrical force

these both forces adjust themselves to keep it in constant velocity

We need the current here. If the current is i, then the force required to keep it moving with a constant velocity will be Bil.

Suppose that total resistance ( electrical) of the wire be R ;

Now emf inuced in the wire E = Bvl;

therefore current i= Bvl/R;

Force necessary = frictional forces + B i l;

= frictional forces + B^2 l^2 v/R;

got it ?
