what is a electromagnet?

it is a type of magnet which works only when current is passed through it it is genrally made of soft iron core with insulating wire wounded on it.

hello......

it is magnet that runs on electricity........unlike a permanent magnet ,the strength of an electromagnet can easily be changed by changing the amount of electric current that flows through it .........it works because an electric current produces a magnetic field........

hi biswajit...

electromagnets are metals (soft iron, silicon steel alot , etc) which pass electricity through them to attain magnetic behavoiour .These metals are also refferd to the core of electromagnet. Generally electromagnets are made powerfull than natural magnets for special puposes. And once the current is switched off they get demagnetised .
