explain why does rms emf cannot be added algebrically? since instantenous emfis added?

It is because instantaneous emf can be treated as vectors and can be added algebraically depending on its polarity but rms value is the root mean squared value is simply a number which can not be treated on equal footing to that of instantaneous emf.
