What is the origin and basis of the domain theory (in ferromagnetism)???????

If a substance is affected by magnetic field and aligns itself according to it, then it must have its magnetic moments and magnetic diploes (internal) aligned in a certain direction in presence of magnetic field.. these are called as domains..
