if compress a spring and tie it with some thin thread so that rhe thread do not loosen.then we put the spring in acid so that after some time the spring and thread completely dissolve in the acid. then what happened to the potential energy stored in the spring?

in real situation there is only one type of energy i.e.kinetic energy.we talk of 2 types of energies in mechanics-kinetic energy and potential energy but potential energy is not a real energy.we know, change in k.e.=work done by all forces.here all includes work done by conservative forces also.delta k.e.=w(conservative)+w(non-con.).we can also write delta k.e.-w(con.)=w(non.con.).this term i.e. -w(con.) is termed as potential energy.this is energy made by us,not nature.work-energy theorem also defines only 1 type of energy i.e.kinetic energy.

The potential energy turns into the required solvation energy. The entire description is contained in this sentence.

as the spring and the thread is immersed in the acid it experiences an upthrust.this decreases the compression of the spring and ultimately, the spring tends to gain natural length.so,the thread breaks down and the springs gains finally, the natural length and then it dissolves.

the energy stored will result in increase in the temperature of the acid. since the molecules are under tension, they will vibrate continuously. when the spring dissolves, the vibration is passed on to the water molecules and thereby increasing the temperature.
