FIRST THING HTERE CON BE NO FRICTIONLESS OBJECTS AND IF THERE IS THEY WILL EXERT NORMAL OR CONTACT FORCE ON EACH OTHER . FRICTIONAL FORCE WILL ALSO BE APPLIED BUT ITS MAGNITUDE WILL BE 0 PLZ RATE ME IF U FIND ME USEFUL !!!!!!!!CHEERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course there can be.... a very direct answer....... there's gravity and then, friction is one manifestation of the contact force which is an electrostatic force..... the normal component may exist despite the tangential component-friction, being a null vector...

i m trying to explain with a example.
assume a wedge on which a block is kept .let all the surfaces are frictionless then the wedge moves away as the block applies a force mgcos on the wedge and the wedge applies a newton reaction force called normal.so i agree with v sabarish that gavity is the force (in this case its component ).

LET A BOX IS KEPT OVER A BIG BOX....THEN THERE WILL BE NORMAL FORCE BETWEEN THEM BUT NO FRICTIONAL FORCE THOUGH....BUT OFCOURSE THERE WILL BE REPULSION FOR THE GRAVITY FORCE.....
YES THEY CAN EVEN EXERT FORCES LIKE ELECTROSTATIC FORCES ON EACH OTHER...

yes let there be one block kept over the other.let the resting surface be frictionless.now let an external force pull the first(block in contact with the resting surface)now the upper block will resist any relative slipping between them so it will apply frictio in the direction opposie to the dir. of the ext.force.since itis a act.react.pair.the lower block applies friction on the upper in the direction of the ext.force and they both move together

@ sinha, according to the question, the two bodies r frictionless, then how can they exert frictional force on one another and if there is no friction, then how will they move together?

no there cannot be exactly frictionless bodies. if they are then their forces will be perpendicular to each other
