Two blocks of masses 4 kg and 6 kg are placed in contact with each other on a frictionless horizontal surface, If we apply a push of 5 N on the heavier mass, the force on the lighter mass will be:

draw the fbd of both

there is a normal reaction on the 6 kg block towards left & normal reaction towards right on the 4 kg block
if a is the common acceleration

5 - N = 6a ..(i)
N = 4a ...(ii)

adding i & ii
5 = 10a
a =0.5
from ii
N = 4a =4*0.5 = 2
