when we push a wall we apply a force to the wall normal to the wall's surface, but the displacement is zero and thus work done is zero but the energy is spent to apply the force, and this force is not large enough to move a wall and thus work done is zero and energy is spent in vain
rate me if i am correct

the time is no factor here as you know work = force x displacement,it matters only on the force applied and the displacement observed and not on the amount of calories burnt or on the time utilized
