Yes magiclko ur concept is perfect.

But your Mp is the moment of inertia about an axis through P which is given by

Mp = Mcentre of mass + m.d2
where d is the distance of P from centre of mass i.e. l/2

Hence Mp = ml2/12 + m(l/2)2
               = ml2/3
