hey guys i am back with another assertion reason ques

statement 1: a cylindrical tank rests on a platform 'x' m high .the tank is filled with water upto a height of 'y' m.there  is an orfice at the bottom of the tank ,fitted with a plug .when the plug is removed ,the distance the jet of water strikes the ground does not depend on y

statement2: it is the height x that determines the distance at which jet of water strikes the ground

okay so here,s my sol

v=2gy

x=(gt^2)/2----------------(1)

range =horizontal vel x time
        =]2gy x t
substituting value of t frm 1
range =2xy

which depends upon y

so (D)
but ans is (A)
so whats wrong???????????????

according to me statement 2 is right i.e. it depends on x
coz when x = 0 the orifice is almost at the ground level since it is mentioned that orifice is at the bottom of the tank, so we can take the vertical height of the orifice from the ground to be nearly equal to zero,
so even if 'y' changes corresponding to change in horizontal velocity, there would be no horizontal range since the water would come into contact with the ground the very instant; whereas if you change 'x' then the time of flight increases and hence u get greater horizontal range
