no the answer is b and should be b.......see...wen we take small steps..normal will be more and so automatically the friction force will be less...nd wen the friction force will be less nd normal will be m,ore...it will prvent sliipmg....(u can understnd this by a simple similiar condition...we hav studied tht friction is a necessary evil..tht is it is very imp.(besidwes havng sum disadvantage,)one of the most important contribution of friction is tht it helps us 2 sit on a chair or in other words if there is no friction we will nt be able 2 sit on a chair UNLES WE SIT ABSOLUTELY NORMAL TO THE PLAIN OF THE CHAIR...SIMILIARLY A THING KEPT ON A TABLE WILL SLIP UNLESS IT IS ABSOLUTELY NORMAL TO THE SURFACE .....)RATE IF SATISFIED .....CORRECT IF WRONG...

@harsh ....how come ."normal will be more and the friction force will be less"....they are not inversely proportional!!!!!!!!!!

@anchal...... demolishing....we kno tht normal nd friction r components of contact force.....thus if one component is more won't the other component be less...PLZZZ CORRECT IF WRONG.....

angle theta is called angle of friction.............therefore = f/N {where f is the frictional force and N is the normal force}

now for small steps 1 ...........so f/N 1 .........         therefore  fN....................hence N is larger than f
