Gravitational potential of a sphere radius R is found to be V
A spherical cavity of R/2 is removed and then filled with a material of density 16 times initial value.
Find potentials at point A,B,C and D

please attempt with solutions!

to find d potential for d sphere wid cavity just consider it as a combination of two spheres (hollow sphere as)one wid -ve density and d complete sphere wid +ve density
find d potential gudluk

yep greatdreams thats right...
A- 19V/4
B- 7 V
C- V/4
D -13V/4

The mass of the cavity = M/8

Now the mass that has been introduced is = 2M as it is

given that it is 16 times denser.

Now original radius = R

Introduced rad =  R/2

So net potential = GM/R - G(M/8)/R/2 + G(2M)/R =

19GM/R = 19 V/4

I applied the principle of superposition.

Is my method correct?and where was the problem

from??

Rest ones i hope we can get by that formula in H.C.Verma

GM/2a^3 (3a^2  - r^2) and subtract and add as has

been given in the problem...

Did you get the answers by the same method??

Sorry for being late.Didn't see  yesterday that you have

posted the  answers...
