A small spherical ball is released from a point at a height h on a rough track.Assuming that it does not slip anywhere , find its linear speed when it rolls on the horizontal part of the track?

For figure, please consult H.C.Verma page no. 200  problem no.--73

Hi,

As the sphere does not slip, v =  rw

Now,

PE of sphere = Translational KE of sphere  + Rotational KE of sphere

mgh = (1/2)mv2 + (1/2)Iw2

w = v/r

gh = (1/2)v2 + (1/2)(I/m)(v/r)2

solve to get v [ Here I is the moment of inertia of sphere ]
