One of the goiitians discodancer wrote on 16/5/2007
" I m taking coaching from narayana Delhi. I talked to students who made it to iits this year. They told me that considering the format of present jee hc verma is useless, though it is a very good book. I want to ask that i m doing deb mukherjee ,dc pandey objective and my narayana study material.is it enough. My questionn is if do not do hc verma than it should not be like that ki maine hc verma nahi ki isliye main iit me select nahi ho paya."

To which the forum expert replied :
"See, H.C. Verma is a good book and you must solve from there atleast the objective questions. I personally feel that one must also do the numerical problems as it gives a strong hold over the subject.
And as you mentioned you can try out D.C. Pandey as well as D. Mukherjee. But please do not jump on solving these M.C.Q type questions withing brushing up the concepts of the chapter very well. Then you ' ll surely get stuck up in the paragraphs , comprehensions and match and pair questions. For brushing up the concepts read University Physics , it's a must. Obviously you need to read only some of the topics from  University Physics ."

I heard that H C Verma is the bible of physics and concentrated all my energy in solving that book. Apart from that we r to do the recommended state book ( as we r not in NCERT course ) also. It is just not possible to read more than that. Should I continue with HCV or not ? It is not possible to read HCV, Resnik, NCERT , state board books ( 4 books ).

it is not important where u stand, but in which direction u are moving

hi ramyani
i am doing H.C verma for physics.the subjective questions in h.c verma are very good in  clearing the concepts.
Also whatever be the format of the paper (objective or subjective) the application of  concepts  is the most important aspect in the any competitive exam.
see knowing the concept is not enough u should also know the application of it.Hence I personally would suggest you to continue with H.C verma as it is a very good book for understanding the application of concepts. Also do take the package of a good institute & try solving problems from them if u have time & if u are thru with H.C Verma

My reply may get controveresial; but i hate hcv. It is very brief and doesnt suit my temperament (requiring detailed explaination). u my cont. 2 use d book if u feel its utility.

hello ramyani.....
i think-----continue with HCV.....
its really gonna help you a lot....
ya the book mentioned by the forum expert--- 'University Physics' is also good....
wanna have your brain taxed....Try 'Problems In General Physics' by I.E. Irodov.....
wanna have more............ GO TO KOTA and join BANSAL, NARAYAN, BRILLIANT, FIITJEE etc etc..!!!!

But you should keep it in mind that it is after all the suggestion of a lay man like me....

see..HCV is preferred all over d country...dis definitely means dat the book has sum stuff...n well..as long as ur concepts r clear, den, the pattern of d exam makes no diference.dis is d truth..but u don need 2 waste ur tym solvin lenghty probs such as sum sums in irodov...so jus get on wid HCV..but remmeber to make notes after evry sum u do..n well...m also in 12th now..i mean..m appearin for IIT in 08....

simple funda...if you like it do it .. otherwise do something you like. You will yourself know if it is good for you or not. Just keep interacting with other people or here only at goiit. CHILLOUT HCV rules!!

Challenge yourself and push yourself to your limits. This is the only way to truly become great.

Bhakkkk dont listen to people who say hc verma is useless

With the present pattern of jee i think it should be the only book u should be really doing the questions are not unnecessarily difficult but just difficult enough to build u r concepts . You can safely skip Deb mukherjee,DC pandey and other but dont miss hcv

Try restricting u r self to
HC Verma , Resnick Halliday (Old two volume one) and importantly NCERT

dont go by every others words,.. everyone has his/her own choice..
u like it.. u should do it..
i have loved this book right from d start..

and there is no point in discontinuing with any good book which u have already been doing..

dont look into these.. do what u like.. (u r among d majority, why fear?)

Sure i am that this day we are the masters of our fate, that the task set before us is not above our strengths; that its pangs and toils are not beyond our endurance. As long as we have faith in our own cause and an unconquerable will to win, victory will not be denied us.
