because banks of river are toooo close as compared to sea or we can say that sea is wide but not river .
now, wats the ht of tide in sea which is extreamly large as compared to river, its in mts. or some K.M. hence there are no tides in da river

To a much smaller extent, tides also occur in large lakes, the atmosphere, and within the solid crust of the earth, acted upon by these same gravitational forces of the moon and sun.
Tides are created because the Earth and the moon are attracted to each other, just like magnets are attracted to each other. The moon tries to pull at anything on the Earth to bring it closer. But, the Earth is able to hold onto everything except the water. Since the water is always moving, the Earth cannot hold onto it, and the moon is able to pull at it. Each day, there are two high tides and two low tides.
I Guess you got your answer.....

we all know that, earth moves around the sun.but earth does not move around the moon.now, consider the water of the sea.since we are seeing from the earth frame i.e.an accelerated frame therefore we have to apply pseudo force on water.if w=angular velocity of earth around sun, then pseudo force on water =m(water)w^2r, r =distance of water from sun.along with this, sun exerts a gravitational force on water = GMm/r^2,M=mass of sun.let m' be mass of earth.force eqn. for earth is :
m' w ^2 r =GMm'/r^2. now,put the value of w^r in mw^2r,you will get that =GMm/r^2.
note:this is force only due to sun.force is exerted by moon and earth also, but these 2 forces as i have proved balance each other.this means that effect of sun has gone due to the pseudo force and the resultant force consists of only force due to moon and earth on water, which causes tide.this doesn't happen with moon bcoz earth doesn't revolve around moon.
