Every pair of bodies in contact with each other exert a normal reaction on each other. ur ques is just like asking why bodies attract each other with the force of gravitation.

the normal force arises from the electrical forces. at the microscopic level, all the bodies are made up of the charged constituents and the contact forces are due to electrical forces between the charged constituents of different bodies

To maintain equilibrium? If no normal force is exerted on a body,it will accelerate under due to the applied force. Its KE will increase. And everywhere in nature, the tendency is to acheive stability by reducing ME.
Is that right?

LEARNER ITS NOT RIGHT.ASHISH IF IT WERE DUE TO MICRO LEVEL ELEC. INTERACTION THEN WHY IS IT A CONTACT FORCE. ITS PLAIN AND EAST NOT THAT COMPLEX.PRATHAV,THERE IS AREASON BEHIND THE EXISTENCE OF GRAVITATIONAL FORCE. HINT THINK ABT. THE PIONS
