The velocity of a particle is towards west at an instant. Its acceleration is not words west, not towards east, not towards north and not towards south. Give an example of this type of motion.

it is the case when particle is moving with constant velocity hence there is no acceleration and no direction of acceleration.

a projectile thrown to the west! Acceleration will be downward, not towards N, S, E or W. At the topmost pt, the inst velocity will point exactly west.

In a projectile acc. is downwards i.e. towards south.

 How is down southwards???

Down means towards the centre of the earth!

give an impusle to a body towards west and delete every other object in this universe so that no external force is acting . you will get the example

acceleration at topmost point is downwards and even perpendicular to the velocity vector. That's totally right dat it is towards the centre of earth. Bt from where, from above. so a vector from above to centre of earth definately points towards south only. Plz correct if i am wrong somewhere!

Dude, face the north and spread ur arms apart.

Your front faces north

your back faces south

your right arm points east

your left arm points west

Now look at your feet. your eyes will be pointing towards the centre of the earth. Its 3D, so I cudnt draw it in a 2D figure.

another eg: a cube has 6 faces. U can assign N, S, E and W to only 4 of the faces. sides 5 and 6 will face 'up' and 'down'

dude but i suppose projectile we r discussing on is a 2-D motion ( motion in a plane ) right?

wy do u need such an example??take a molecule man .... mg is practically = 0 and during derivation of pressure exerted by gas molecules ...molecules are considered as moving with constant velocity ...so there is ur example ...a gas molecule as simple as dat!!!!!!

Just look at this figure, you'll get it.

This point is a car decelerating while moving. Velocity is westwards, and there are both tangential and centripetal accelerations, so its acceleration is somewhere between East and South.

Hope this example is sufficient.

I took just a specific case, you may take any different permutation of the data.
