A solid sphere is set into rotation on a rough surface with linear speed v0 in forward direction and angular speed of (v/r) in anticlockwise direction .Find linear speed of sphere when it stops rotating .

Hi Manmadha, As sphere is rotating in anti clockwise direction it should slip . Torque due to friction at point of contact is 0 ,hence conserve angular momentum about point of contact of sphere and ground . Angular velocity of sphere is 0 at the time when rotation of sphere is stopped. -I w + m vo r = m v r I = (2/5)mr^2 v = (3/5)vo.
