Resultant force is
[ ]
82+62 = 10N
82+62 = 10Ndirection is tan-1(8/6)
Hence acceleration = F/m =2 m/s2

Consider any two perpendicular forces
resolve them into x and y axis
Fx = 8cos45 + 6sin45 = 14/
2
2Fy = 8sin45 - 6cos45 = 2/
2
2ax = Fx/m=14/5
2
2ay =Fy/m =2/5
2
2thus net accelaration a=
ax2 + ay2
ax2 + ay2 =2 m/s
this is a much safer method of getting the right answer
