i want urgent help in the techniques to solve problems based on conservation of linear momentum and collisions and about how is momentum is conserved in case of all kinds of collisions .i am currently enrolled in FIITJEE and unable to solve tough problems given by them in  conservation of linear momentum

Hi Amolkr,
I have also enrolled in FIITJEE RSM course for JEE 2008. I will advise you not to refer FIITJEE material for studying a concept but use it for testing them through the sums. Instead, I personally felt a lot better using reference books like Haliday- Resnick- Walker and Pearson's university physics for clearing concepts. HRW has a special section on tips to solve problems for each chapter.
eg.problem solving tactics for conservation of linear momentum- for problems involving conservation of linear momentum, make sure you have chosen a closed(without passage of matter)and isolated(net external force- 0) system.
If system is not isolated, one might conserve one component and not the other.
Next, select 2 appropriate states of the system- initial and final and write the expression for the linear momentum for each .take care of the inertial reference frames and make sure you are taking into account the whole system not missing any part of it and not including external objects.
finally set your expression for pi and pf equate them and solve for what is requested.                        all the best

Kaushal

Hey ....
I might not be able to help you with the theory part but dude u can always put up questions for us ....we will love to discuss them with you ........
also , the site will be uploading its own material on all chapters ..... so you can refer to that also if you like .....................

I hope you understand that explaining the whole theory like this might become cumbersome but we can always discuss questions in such a way that the underlying cncepts become clearer.................
