i really cannot solve these problems... pls pls pls help me!
i dont only want the correct ans, but even want the solution, as in how to arrive at the answer.

1. A light spring is hung vertically from a fixed support  and a heavy mass m is attached to a lower end. the mass is then slowly lowered to its equilibrium position. this stretches the spring by an amount d. If the same body is permitted to fall instead, through what distance does it stretch the string?
ANS. OPTIONS:
(a)  d
(b)  1.5 d
(c)  2d
(d)  3d

2. A uniform chain of length of length l and mass m lies on a smooth table. A very small part of this chainhangs from the table. It begins to fall under the weight of the hanging end. Find the velocity of the chain when the length of the hanging part becomes y.

3.. If the kinetic energy of a body increases by 0.1%, the percentage increase in momentum will be:
ANS OPTIONS:
(a) 0.05%
(b) 0.1%
(c) 1.0%
(d)10%

Hi Simone ,
i'll only answer the first query this time.................
now u see that initially when the mass m was lowered slowly to its equilirium position then it extended the spring by an amount d . now in the question it must be mentioned that whether in the second situation they want the maximum extension of the spring or final extension n the spring . ......
when we let the mass  m  fall freely then it it gains up some velocity and goes further away from its equilibrium position and stretches the spring more than d ..then it comes back again towards the equilibrium position and eventually settles down to the equilibrium position after some oscillations ..... so we can say that  finally  the extension in the pring will be equal to d  only .......
