All surfaces shown in fig are smooth .System is released with the spring unstretched.In equilbrium ,compression in the spring will be: ( nothing is fixed in the ques except spring which is fixed from wall) Plz do it with energy conservation coz i am not able to do it with energy conservation answer is (mg/k) this answer is 100% correct u can check it by solving this ques from newton's laws fig is below plz click on fig & open it then u will see clear picture here it is not clear

well the figure is clear and i have verified ur ans by doing using force diag..now tell me y do u want to do it using energy conservation...do u noe how tough u will make this otherwise simple prob...to give u an idea...rod will fall down by a height h and with velocity v and hence push wedge towards right with velocity u and thus compress spring..velocities will be obtaine d by momentum balances

actually bhaiya i am getting a diff answer by solving it by work energy and i know it is not possible to get diff answers frm diff methods dats wny i asked secondly in exam no one is going to ask us dat by which method we hav solved the ques so i think dat i shud be able to solve the ques from every method possible plz now solve it by energy principle & post the solution
