I just came across a pretty good problem in rotational motion, and I thoroughly enjoyed solving it. I thought I'd share the problem with you, and I hope you have fun solving it. The person who solves this should have understood rotational motion pretty well. So go ahead and test your understanding:

(It is not very difficult at all, just application of the concepts)

Problem : A sphere of mass M and radius R is moving on a rough horizontal surface, having coefficient of friction . Find the time after which it will attain least linear velocity.

I will salute the correct reply 5 times. I will post the solution tomorrow morning/Today night if no one has managed the right answer (which i doubt as there are so many geniuses around)

Click on the image for best clarity. One more thing, the question is very clear, so dont ask me anything regarding the question.

Cheers!

1/2 m Vo^2 + 1/2 I.w^2 =  mg s

s = 1/2mg ( mVo^2 + 2/5 m R^2.w^2)

ma = mg
a = g
appllying eqn. of motion we get

s = Vo t - 1/2 gt^2

from above we can find t....

is it correct.

Well you may be or may not be. You've got to solve and tell me. I too dont have a pen here. So when u solve it, post it here. Need not post the method. If its right, 5 salutes!

@rhd92 - can you make your answer more clear? Like what all terms are there in the numerator and denominator?
