An object of mass m is attached 2 a vertical spring& allowed 2 fall. it stretches the spring by d1. now the spring is cut into half and 1 of the half is attached 2 the ceiling and obj of double the mass of the earlier obj is attached at the bottom and slowly lowered to equilibrium position. the spring streches by d2 .
1)wat is the displacement d2 of mass2m?
now the 2 halves r kept side by side on a horizontal surface along vth a platform of negligible mass.
2)from wat height above the platform should both the objs tied together b dropped so dat each spring is compressed by(d1+d2)?

Are the answers d1=d2 and h=kd1^2/3mg

For the first question,

when the spring is cut in half, the new spring constant of each half is given by

Thus,

can you explain the situation in the 2nd part of the question in detail or try to attach a diagram...

from what i inferd from ur ques
using energy conservation
