the sun attracts the moon with a greater force than the earth does....
then why does the moon orbit around the earth....

Two forces at work here --- earth's gravity tries to pull the moon down to it, but at the same time the moon has its own speed through space that's trying to hurl it outward away from earth. The two forces almost counteract each other, so the moon simply goes round and round. However, the moon is gradually moving farther away from us --- about 1.5 inches per year.

jessica ur answer is wrong consider uranus it is much nearer to jupiter so it should revolve ariund jupiter but it doesnt happen................. this is ou of question....... for NO the force of sun is very much more than the earth and even if it is slightly more than why is the cntre of the earth at earth.... u just told moon is moving away from the earth...... but why earth why nt sun....

yaa question is correct but not getting any logic,,,,,its not any physical reason,.,,just the fault of origin,,,ab chanda mama dharti mata ke aas paas ghumte hue paida hue to suraj babu ka chakkar ku lagayenge................paida hi chakkar lagate hue liya hai earth ke around sab enrgy momentum...idhar earth ke pas hi conserve rahta hai...
