waves travel by collision of particles, but wave velocity is constant while particle velocity varies

waves travel by collision of particles, but wave velocity is constant while particle velocity varies b/w a maxima n minima. does dis mean dat d collision is not elastic?

yes, collisions are inelastic in nature thats why the waves are damped as they travel in the medium.
