when a bomb is thrown frm a plane why does it drop below the plane only???

the horizontal component of the velocity remains unchanged... there is no horizontal force acting on it if the plane is also moving uniformly with same velocity, they will always be in same vertical plane

this is true only when plane is moving with constant velocity when a bomb is dropped ,it has velocity as that of the plane in the horizontal direction. there is no acceleration in the horizontal direction of the bomb. Also if the plane is moving with constant velocity the horizontal distance covered by the plane and the bomb in a given time is same

The bomb has the same horizontal componet of velocity as the plane has and no descepetive force acts along the horizontal direction(considering air resistance negligeble),so its horizontal velocity is unchanged and drops below the plane

hey sudhir, velocity of aeroplane should also be constant otherwise it will accelerate but the bomb will not so the horizontal distance will not be same

if u provide some initial velocity , then depending upon the velocity of the plane(including the direction) and the velocity u provided(including the direction), the bomb many can be at any position . So, we come across infinite cases
A)if the plane is moving horizontally with uniform velocity, then the initial velocity of the bomb is the velocity of the plane , hence the bomb goes up (while the plane continues going horizontally)until its(the bomb's) velocity becomes 0 and then comes down.so, the bomb drops above the plane B) if the plane s moving vertically upwards with uniform velocity, then the bomb retains the velocity of the plane the moment it is dropped but its velocity reduces fast(because it is decelerating)(while the plane continues to move with the same speed) , hence in this case , the bomb drops below the plane C)if the plane is moving with uniform velocity in the direction making an angle with the horizontal, then also, the bomb drops below the plane because here the bomb decelerates and hence the plane is ahed of the bomb (coz plane's component of vertical velocity remains the same)(while the vertical component of velocity of the bomb (initial velocity in vertical direction being the velocity of the plane in vertical direction) decreases fast) similarly u may also take the case in which the plane is moving in vertically downward direction with uniform velociy where the bomb drops above the plane
All these r the cases in which the bomb is simply dropped and the plane is simply moving with uniform velocity, but u may also take the cases in which the velocity of the bomb is non 0 in all the infinite directions and non uniform uniform velocity of the plane in all the directions where the bomb may or may not be dropped u can get infinite cases in which the bomb drops above the plane and infinite cases in which the bomb drops below the plane

sorry, if the plane is going vertically downwards with uniform velocity , then the bomb would be dropped below the plane because gravity and initial velocity both r in downward direction where as the plane would be moving with uniform velocity(and hence lies above the bomb), and if the plane is moving horizontally with uniform speed and if a bomb is dropped, then also the bomb drops below the plane because the plane has only horizontal velocity and the bomb has vertically downward acceleration too in addition to uniform velocity in horizontal direction but the statement is not always right, there r many possibilities (like the bomb being thrown with some initial velocity in vertical direction from the plane moving horizontally)etc, etc, etc

when the bomb is dropped it falls vertically with the reference to the plane but when we observe it fall in a parabolic curve because of the initial velocity of the bomb
