Two springs A & B(kA=2kB) are stretched by applying forces of equal magnitudes at the four ends. If the energy stored in A is E, that in B is
(a) E/2
(b) 2E
(c) E
(d) E/4.

We know Energy=1/2 k x^2
For A Energy =E
means E = 1/2 Ka x^2
 so in B
E' = 1/2 Kb x^2
but Ka/2=kb

therefore E' = E/2

(A)

ya answer shud be B

see the force is dame and hence is the displacement

given that 1/2kx^2 = E

for second spring it is going to be
1/2 2kx^2 = 2E

\mbox{Let the displacements produced in the two springs be} \ x_1 \ \mbox{and} \ x_2 \\ \\ \mbox{Since applied force is same} \\ \\ k_1x_1 = k_2x_2 \\ \\ \mbox{Since} \ k_1 = 2k_2 \ \mbox{we have} \ x_2 = 2x_1 \\ \\ \mbox{Now energy stored in the first spring is} \ \frac{1}{2} k_1x_1^2 = E \\ \\ \mbox{Energy stored in the second spring is thus} \ \frac{1}{2}k_2x_2^2 = \frac{1}{2}\frac{k_1}{2}*4x_1^2 = k_1x_1^2 = 2E

yeah d tension in both springs is d same.
so if xtension in spring is x den in spring b it is 2x...
so u get 2E as d ans.
