well, doping affects the conductivity of a semiconductor by increasing it.there is no need of doping in conductors..there r two types of semiconductors-p-type and n-type.p-type conductors r formed when a substance like germanium or silicon is doped with indium or gallium whereas n-type semiconductor is formed when it is doped with phosphorus or antimony..here n and p stand for negative and positive respectively..so,the charge carriers in n-type semiconductors r electrons(negative charge carriers) and those in p-type semiconductors r holes(positive charge carriers)..let us take the example of a n-type semiconductor..if we dope phosphorus with silicon,4 electrons in the outermost valence shell of phosphorus get bonded to four electrons of silicon.this leaves one electron free which moves from one part of the semiconductor to the other part and hence conduction takes place..hope this helps you..cheers

well there r 2 types of semiconductors p-type and n-type . p-type is formed wen Si or Ge is doped wid grp 13 element thus Si etc. forms 3 bonds with that atom and one hole is left that hole results in conductivity p (+ive) and in n-type Si is doped with a 15TH grp element so Si forms 4 bonds and 1 electron is left which results in conductivity n (-ive) or to learn well n (nitrogen family)
