Using the Rydberg formula, calculate the wavelengths of the first four spectral lines in the Balmer series of the hydrogen spectrum. EXPLAIN EACH STEP CLEARLY
Balmer series is obtained by transition of electrons from higher states to the 1st excited state (i.e. n=2). It is necessary that the initial state be greater than 2. So for the first 4 lines, we have n=3,4,5,6. By Rydberg's formula,
1/ = RH (1/22 - 1/n2) * z2 Where RH = Rydberg Constant n = 3,4,5,6 z = Atomic No. of H-like species
