moseley law for a particular characteristic X-ray series, frequency1/2 = a(Z-b), where a and b are constants

for Kalpha series b = 1, now take the ratio of first to second as wavelength ratio 1 : 4

 frequency ratio 4 : 1

frequency square root ratio 2 : 1 so 2/1 = (11-1)/(z-1) gives z = 6
