Q factor is a dimensionless parameter that compares the time constant  for decay of an oscillating physical system's amplitude to its oscillation period . Equivalently, it compares the frequency at which a system oscillates to the rate at which it dissipates its energy. A higher Q indicates a lower rate of energy dissipation relative to the oscillation frequency, so the oscillations die out more slowly.

Generally Q is defined to be

Q =omega *{Energy Stored} /power loss

= 2 pie * energy stored / energy dissipated per cycle

q factor is defined as the energy released during a nuclear process....
the main point is that q = mass defect *(c^2)
where mass dfct=mass of prodcts-mass of reactnts
so,if the q factr is -ve,then the reaction does nt take place spontaneously...
if the q factr is +ve,the reaction is spontaneous.....
