Bhubaneswar IIT to host convocation today

Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar, will host its maiden convocation on Friday. Sources said 94 students will be awarded Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) degrees as they completed their stint at the four-year-old institute that continues to function from temporary campuses, while one student will be receive a PhD in electrical engineering.

"The first batch of students are special because they had to face many teething problem in the initial years when we had to start functioning from IIT-Kharagpur campus in 2008. We started our classes in Bhubaneswar in 2009 in a small building, though we have managed to create sizable infrastructure now," said registrar B K Ray.

Nuclear scientist and former chairman of Atomic Energy Commission of India Anil Kakodkar will be the chief guest at the convocation ceremony. The IIT-BBS will award Honoris Causa (doctor of Science) to Dr Bhakta B Rath, who is associate director of research and head material sciences and component technology directorate, Naval Research Laboratory, Washington DC, USA.
