Jun'11CBSE results: Students puzzled about admissions
While the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board had given an option to students to not appear for its board exams this year, nearly 75% of the students chose to sit for the exams. The rest decided to appear for exams conducted by the school. However, now students are confused about how they will get admission to class XI if they wish to switch to the state board.Since all the students scoring above 90% have the same 10 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), which is the indicative percentage of marks, what will the college take into consideration for class XI admissions? And what happens when there is only one seat left for two students with the same CGPA?
Yash Shah, a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, said, “This system of grade points has added to more confusion. It is alright for those who want to continue with CBSE. But for those who want to switch over to the state board, how will our GPA be counted against the percentages of others?”While there seems to be confusion amongst schools about the admission process, Sunita George, vice-principal, RN Podar School, Santa Cruz, said, “After the results, those who want to secure admissions in HSC or any other board, should approach the school. We will directly send their marks to the state board authorities who will convey them to the concerned colleges online. But students will not be able to look at their marks.”
Cherian George, principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Powai, said, “The CBSE will be giving details about admission methods. Marks will be taken into consideration in case of equal CGPA.” Deepshikha Srivastava, principal, Rajhans Vidyalaya, Andheri, said, “There may also be an aptitude test at the school level for students having equal CGPA to determine admission.”
The CBSE has also issued a circular to all schools, in which it has said that in the case of two or more candidates obtaining equal CGPA, the overall merit of such candidates may be determined. For Science-based courses, candidates obtaining higher CGPA in one compulsory language will get preference. The same is the case for Commerce and Humanities.
