Competition helps Bokaro shine in JEE

Delhi Public School once again outsmarted the students of Chinmaya Vidyalaya and other schools of the district as 33 of its students qualified for the IIT. As many as 24 students from Chinmaya Vidyalaya cracked the entrance exam.Five students of DPS secured ranks under 500. Anshul Kumar Rai of DPS got 64th rank in India to top the district. Last year, out of 70 students who cracked IIT-JEE, 40 of them were from DPS and 20 from Chinmaya, while 10 others were from different schools and coaching institutes.

Apart from the above two schools, many students of other schools also cracked IIT-JEE 2011 this year. According to school sources, three students each from Bokaro Ispat Senior Secondary School and St Xavier's and two students each of Pentecostal School Assembly, Ayappa Public School and Guru Gobind Singh Public School (GGPS) and one student each of MGM Higher Secondary, DAV Public School, and others have cracked the competition. However, the zeal to compete with the IIT-JEE with best ranks between the schools in town is attracting many students from other districts and states. Several hundred students from outside the district come every year to this town to reap benefit of this academic rivalry.

Anshul said, "Yes, there is a very tough competition among the students of various schools for securing ranks in IIT-JEE. Many believe that school producing maximum number of successful candidates is the best. My school is the best as maximum number of students qualify from here."DPS vice-principal S S Mahapatra said he cannot deny healthy competition among the students and schools as far as IIT-JEE is concerned. For parents, their wards cracking IIT-JEE has become a status symbol these days and they are very serious about the preparation of their children for the examination.
