Dignitaries, celebrities to walk for cancer Sunday
Led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's wife Gursharan Kaur and celebrities like Sharmila Tagore and Rahul Bose, hundreds of people are expected to join the 'Walk for Life' this Sunday in an effort to raise awareness about cancer. World Cancer Day is observed Feb 4 every year.
The four-km walk which will begin at Vinay Marg in the capital, go down to Shantipath and wind back to Vinay Marg, also intends to raise funds for free supportive care services for cancer patients by CanSupport, the NGO organising the walk.
"This walk has become a regular feature now but this year we have a new addition to it. Besides the walk, there will also be a run on the same route which will aim at driving home the message that healthy eating habits and exercise can help fight cancer," said an official of CanSupport.
The walk will also see cancer survivors participate giving the message that there is life after cancer.
Former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Kiran Bedi will also take part in the walk, along with the US ambassador Timothy J. Roemer.
