High-school colleges to blame for dip in HSC results: Experts

Engineering Entrance ,

After the state's performance dipped by nearly 6% in the HSC results declared on Friday, experts say that poor quality of teaching in new junior colleges attached to many high schools, may be one of the reasons resulting in the declining city average.Out of 302 junior colleges attached to high schools in greater Mumbai, 63 colleges had pass percentages below 50%. Board authorities have blamed their dismal performance on lack of quality in teaching.

RR Bhise, secretary, Mumbai Division of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, said, "Most of these junior colleges seem to lack good teaching faculties."The education department had given permission to many state board schools to start junior colleges to increase the number of seats available to students.Dr TA Shivare, principal of Hinduja College of Commerce, Charni Road said,"Junior colleges affiliated to degree colleges continue to perform well. In new colleges, reasons for such low scores may be poor faculty and inadequate infrastructure."
