May'11IIT-Delhi first choice of lead-rankers
When it comes to deciding which Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) they want to opt for, Delhi is a hot favourite among students who have got top ranks in the entrance examination. This is specially so for those in the top-100 from the region and the city as it is closer to their hometowns, followed by IIT-Bombay. Kunal Chawla from Ropar in Punjab who has been placed 6th said, ''IIT-Delhi is my first choice as it has the best placements, followed by Bombay. Though there is an IIT in Ropar, I feel the institute is still growing and will take few more years to strengthen its base.''
The country's topper among girls, Sumegha Garg, who has attained 12th position said it's proximity to Bathinda that makes Delhi her first option and Bombay the next one. Patiala's Gautam Prem Jain, who got 20th position, said he will prefer IIT-Delhi as the national capital is closer to Patiala. ''Otherwise IIT-Bombay is the best in the country,'' he said. For Rhythm Gupta of Ambala, ranked 27th, IIT-Delhi is the best option as has a good placement record and is the nearest from his hometown.
Piyush Sharma of Panchkula, who is 30th on the list, said Delhi has the best infrastructure and is not far from home. It is also at par with IIT-Bombay in terms of packages offered. It is the same for Madhur Gupta of Chandigarh, slotted 242th. ''I am not considering IIT Ropar as it will take time for its infrastructure to be developed. Moreover, the national capital is only a few hours away from Chandigarh,'' he said.
