India tests Prithvi-II nuclear capable missile

Engineering Entrance , MBA

India Monday test fired the nuclear capable surface to surface Prithvi-II missile twice from the Chandipur range in Orissa, defence sources said. The surface to surface missiles were tested from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Balasore district, about 230 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, at 10.30 a.m. and three minutes later at 10.33 a.m.

The missiles have a striking range of about 350 km, officials said. Prithvi is India's first indigenously built ballistic missile. It is one of five missiles being developed under India's Integrated Missile Development Programme. Two versions of the missiles have already been deployed with the army and air force. Monday's tests was described as part of user trials.
