Karnataka students shine in Comed-K

Students from Karnataka have outshone their peers from other states in the Undergraduate Entrance Test (UGET) conducted by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering, and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (Comed-K) on May 6.
While the results will be published on www.comedk.org only at 11 am on Friday, the Comed-K announced the details of the toppers and the eligible students on Thursday.
All the top 10 ranks in the medical/dental streams and nine out of the top 10 positions in the engineering stream have gone to students from Karnataka, according to A S Srikanth, Chief Executive, Comed-K.
Not only that, 38 of the top 50 ranks in the medical/dental streams and 42 in engineering have been lapped up by examinees from the State. What’s more, the first 66 ranks out of 100 in the medical/dental streams, and 83 in engineering belong to the local students.
As much as 36 per cent or 3,284 eligible students in the medical/dental streams are from Karnataka. Last year, 2,800 students from the State were eligible. In the engineering stream, 37 per cent or 16,783 students are from Karnataka. In 2011, their number stood at 15,568, Srikanth pointed out.
While all the 44,185 students who took the engineering test have sailed through, the proportion of successful examinees in the medical/dental streams is just 28 per cent or 9,135.
