Progress Software to groom engineering students

Engineering Entrance , JEE Main

Progress Software will help three engineering colleges in setting up incubation centres in Hyderabad. These centres would provide office space for third year students to work on their project ideas.

Besides helping colleges, the company would interact with students to guide them on their project roadmap.

“The idea is to find talent quite early and groom them. By the time they complete their course, they are ready with a product,” Mr Ramesh Loganathan, Vice-President and Centre Head of Progress Software India, told Business Line.

“We have invited proposals from students. We will short-list them and pick 8-10 ideas in each college for handholding. These students would get a chance to work on our IT platforms to develop products,” he said.

They can start working on their projects during the summer and fine-tune the products thru the fourth year. “By the time they finish their course, they are ready with a product. Even if they fail, they would know where and when to stop. This will help in their future projects,” he said.

The colleges he spoke to are Vasavi Engineering College, BVR IT (which incubated Notion Ink's Adam project) and Engineering College in Osmania University.

Mr Ramesh has been campaigning in favour of products and organising competitions on behalf of ITsAP (IT and ITES industry association in Andhra Pradesh).

He regularly interacts with start-ups in Hyderabad to guide them. He believes that an ecosystem for IT products would bring in more IP (intellectual property) and jobs.

“At Vasavi, we have received proposals from 40 teams. We will have them reviewed before short-listing 8-10 teams.

IIIT incubation facility
The company would start second phase of its incubation facility at IIIT (Indian Institute of Information Technology-Hyderabad) by adding more space. Launched in association with ITsAP, the existing incubation facility houses 12 start-ups.
