HCl is an acid while dry HCl is not. why????

Because HCl does not form H+ ions in the absence of water.

an acid is called an acid because it releases H+ ions in water..i.e. it dissociates in water..but dry HCl..in d absence of water.doesnt produce H+ ions..so nt an acid
