I think its the second compound due to +I effect of methyl grp.

Either way its the second one... If you consider +I or if you consider that it goes out of plane, Basicity will only increase in both cases..

@ cutepooja
i think u r talking abt ortho effect

which is consider only in cooh (coz it is bulky group )
not consider in aniline !
@ ravi
dude u win it by 36 sec
check the time
but u didn't write reason for that !

THE ANSWER IS GIVEN AS 1 and is CORRECT..
BUT DON'T KNOW THE REASON.

i'll rate every1, wid an reason (not repeated)

i too though 2nd, even hyperconjugation supports it.

no in general to yar agar bada grp laga hoga to N will have a hinderance in donating the electron densities (lone pair)

@cutepooja, its specified, methyl (-CH3) group is attached, so i don't think steric hinderance will have a role to play.

Agar bada group hota hai then it pushes the NH2 out of the plane of the ring, thus constricting resonance.. So the lone pair becomes pure, and thus the basicity increases. This is called ortho effect.. No constriction of donating ability as far as i know..

@shubham.123, ya are explaining the answer as 2nd.

@mukundmadhav, your answer too is supporting the basicity of 2.
