idoform test answered by acetophenone

2) benzoic acid and methyl benzoate

decarboxylation of benzoic acid and den pass it through lime water

Acetophenone shows iodoform test while benzophenone doesn't

Thats what I had written earlier.......
Methyl benzoate is an ester and will give a fruity smell
But I've removed it 'coz that wasn't a rxn. was it?

ya i too told it ,but my teacher said there must be some other chemical test which gives a ppt or colour.

and CO2 will be formed in both cases, isnt it?

ist one u can do iodoform test

the second i would say u add NaHCO3...benzoic acid will give effervesence due to formation of CO2...but metyl benzoate wont give that.............
