Q1) which is more stable? CH2-COCH3 OR CH2-CHO and why?? Q2)Arrange in increasing order of stability :CH2 , :CF2 , :CCl2 If these are i) all singlet ii) all triplet ???? Q3)Which of these will have highest dipole moment? i) CHCl3 ii) CH2Cl2 iii) CH3Cl iv) CCl4 ???

but in book its given CH3Cl > CH2Cl2
So, I m confused.......

The order is CH3Cl (1.87D) > CH2 Cl2 (1.54D) > CHCl3 (1.02 D) > CCl4 (0 D)

ma'am.......
if we don't go for data.......and visualise its structure......(vich is tetrahedral)
then it comes out to be........
CH2Cl2 > CHCl3 = CH3Cl
and ofcourse CCl4 = 0........
then how this deviation arise??????

The effect of Cl will be more prominent than H becoz H is the smallest of them(even if there are 3H present). Did you get it???

I mean both having dipole moment = dipole moment of a single C-H bond + dipole moment of a single C-Cl bond.

and ma'am, I think direction of dipole moment is from -ve to +ve .
and in ur structures its from +ve to -ve......
and also, I think u have neglected dipole moments of C-H bonds....
