benzene + CH3COCl ----------> anhyd. AlCl3 ----------> Ph - COCH3 (X)

 

X is a - I and - M group . so, reaction occura at meta position.

 

so, Y ------>  m- Br Ph- COCH3 ( both meta position consist of Br )

 

and Z-------> aldol condensation ( made it on my blog http://pranav-agrawal.blogspot.com do check ~~)
