The carboxylic esters are pleasane smelling liquids or solids which are used for making artificial flavours and essences, e.g., isoamyl acetate - banana oil; amyl butyrate - apricot; isoamyl isovalerate - apple ; methyl butyrate - pine apple ; etc. Thus you can get a method for synthesising the desired ester.


Similarly some terpenes are also used in perfumary; different methods are available for synthesising different terpenes.
