Acetaldehyde can be converted into acetylene in the following steps

CH3CHO ---------------  reduction(LiAlH4)-------> CH3CH2OH ------HBr------> CH3CH2Br------ KOH(alc.) ------> CH2=CH2 ---------Br2--------> CH2(Br)-CH2(Br)----------------------- 2KOH(Alc)-----------> Acetylene + 2KBr + 2H2O

Then Acetylene in converted into Benzene  then to Toluene in the following way

sir, is this step: CH3CH2Br------ KOH(alc.) ------> CH2=CH2

favourable?? coz as far as I know, this alkene formation is not kinetically favourable...... so higher temp will have to be used to ensure tht this product is formed

right??

Alkyl halide is converted to alkene via alcoholic KOH and we always use this method for conversion .Of course the reaction is completed on heating only . this is basic dedydrohalogenation reaction.

saharsha there is a prob in your answer bcoz you rather use alc koh for dehydrohalogenation for ist  step and nanh2 for next step not alc koh for both the steps.

I think for better yield, NaNH2 can be used than alc.KOH
