see,I'm assuming that you don't want to use any other org compound as a reagent.otherwise the procedure may be short

1.ozonolysis.u get glyoxal.

2.reduce glyoxal using red P.ethane is formed

3.HBr is added product is ethyl bromide.

4.take one molecule and oxidize it to ehanoic acid

.5.decarboxylation.you get methane

6.add HBr to get methyl bromide

7.corey house synthesis. you get propane

8.HVZ reaction.product is 2 br propane

.9.alcoholic KOH

10. HBr with peroxide you get 1 bromo propane

11.aq.KOH followed by oxidation.finally u get propanoic acid

add ch3ch2ch2cl to benzene 1 phenyl propane is formed if we oxidise this using chromium trioxide benzoic acid and propanoic acid are formed

aadithan is slightly wrong if we as he says we after first step we would get cumene instead we shud do FC acylation followed by wolf kishner redction/clemmenson red. and then ooxidation of benzene ring by hot KMNO4 etc. rates plz..............

my friend we get cumene by adding propene to benzene in the presence of h3po3
