a hydrocarbon A [c,90.56%,vd 53] was subjected to vigorous oxidation to give a dibasic B . .10 gm of B require 24.1 ml of .05 N NAOH for complete neutralization .Nitration of B gave a single mononitro derivative . When B was heated strongly with soda lime and it gave benzene .Identify A and B with proper reasoning and also give their structures

A= P xylene and B= Terephthalic acid

becoz
molecular wt =2 x vapour density =106 g
out of this 90.56% is carbon which is 96 g
therefore no of carbon is 96/12 = 8
therefore 8 carbon and 10 hydrogen.( C8H10)

A ---OXIDATION---> B diabasic acid R/(COOH)2

now Meq of dibasic acid = Meq of NaOH

0.1/E X 1000 = 24.1 X.05

Equivalent wt of diabasic acid is =83

molecular wt of diabasic acid is 166

molecular wt of R =166 - 2x45=76

this suggest that R is C6H4

B on heating with sodalime gives benzene and thus B  is C6H4(COOH)2

also B shows mononitro derivative so B is terepthalic acid and A is p-xylene
